6/28/08 Cleveland 0-0 Richmond

For the second week in a row, the boys were held to a 0-0 draw. I didn't get to see the game as I was out of town, but I plan on watching the replay on STO on Wednesday. This was a great opportunity for us to pick up points on Charlotte and put some distance between us and Baltimore in the race for second place. Baltimore has three games in hand and are only 4 points behind us. That's not a good situation, in my opinion.

Some players were being rested for the game (we play Chicago in the Open Cup on Tuesday). I'm not sure that I agree with this. I think that our number 1 priority should be doing well in the league. It's critical that we get one of the top two spots to get a bye into the second round of the playoffs.

I don't know. Both competitions are worth our effort. And the Open Cup is only one match. Yeah, we may have dropped two points on Sunday, but there's no guarantee we could have gotten three. And one mistake will put us out of the Cup. Plus, there's the monetary prize if we get the farthest out of the USL2 teams. I don't think resting the guys for one regular season match will hurt us in the long run. Also, Richmond was doing the same thing as us. Who knows, maybe the managers discussed this before hand, it would have been good for both teams.
